Is It? [Justia, 11/14/16]:
Professor Margulies describes the typical
pattern in politics of quiescence and backlash. As Margulies explains, it is
natural for the supporters of the winning candidate to reach a sense of
quiescence after the election, while the supporters of the losing candidate
formulate a backlash. Margulies points out that this pattern exists regardless
of whether the winning candidate is a Republican or a Democrat.

False witness: US judge tackles mistaken identifications [AP, 11/13/16]: Talena Johnson was sure she knew the man who shot
her. She was wrong, and George Cortez was sent off to prison for life.
FBI: Hate Crimes Against Muslims Up 67 Percent in 2015 [CNS, 11/13/16]: The FBI says the number of hate
crimes reported to police increased by about 6.7 percent last year, led largely
by a 67 percent surge in crimes against Muslims.

Debates over race-conscious affirmative action in higher education admissions

the Supreme Court when, for only the second time in the Supreme Court’s

the U.S. illegally [LA Times, 11/13/16]: President-elect Donald Trump
says his administration will seek to promptly deport up to 3 million immigrants
with "criminal records’’ who are in the U.S. illegally but will defer the
far wider exclusions he called for during the campaign until "after the
border is secure.’’
