II. Defining the Political System: Federalism and Checks and Balances [See TOPICS 11-15 in the 5th edition of Constitutional Law] Here are recent articles that are relevant to this unit:

Birth Control Is Back Before The Supreme Court. Liberals Could Win This Time [ThinkProgress, 11/9/15]: The cases, which are likely to be consolidated under the name Zubik v. Burwell, represent the Court’s second foray into this space in less than two years. The last foray, of course, was the Court’s decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, which upset a longstanding balance between religious objectors and others who benefit from the laws that these objectors find objectionable.

Obama rejects request to build Keystone XL oil pipeline [Jurist, 11/8/15]: The president cited climate change as the primary reason in which he is not allowing construction of the pipeline, which was proposed to be nearly 1,200 miles long and would transport approximately 800,000 barrels of petroleum a day from the Canadian oil sands to the Gulf coast.

Democrats look to ride Clinton wave to Senate control [Politico, 11/8/15]: The party is angling to expand the electoral map by fielding strong recruits in red states like Missouri and Arkansas.

High Court Backs Officer for High-Speed Chase Shootout [CNS. 11/9/15]: A Texas state trooper who ended a high-speed chase by firing at the fleeing car from a bridge, killing the driver, deserves immunity, the Supreme Court ruled Monday.
